I love this time of year when the seasons are changing with cool mornings and evenings and the kids are planning their Halloween costumes. At our house, I think we'll have a ghost and a Clone Wars character this year. Maybe even Cigar Guy from the Ryder Cup!
One of our fall family traditions is to visit Jacquemin Farms. Located right off Hyland -Croy Rd. near Jerome High School, Jacquemin Farms has 15-acres of pumpkin fields where you can take a hayride out and enjoy the scenery. Don't miss the great photo opportunity--taking your child's picture next to "their" pumpkin that they select. (For us, it's fun to see the size of the kids' pumpkins grow every year!)
There is a Kiddie Playland area for little ones (10 and under) with a straw maze and giant inflatable toys (Bugsy the caterpillar, a Balloon Typhoon and a Haunted House maze). Admission is $5 per child (per day) and includes unlimited playtime. During weekdays, the air toys are not available until 3 p.m. Children ages 2 and younger are free with an older, paying sibling.
One of our favorite attractions is the "sandbox" of shelled corn for digging and playing with Tonka Trucks. No mess to clean up -- just brush off any stray kernels when they are finished. I like the fact that I can sit and enjoy a fresh pumpkin donut and apple cider slushee while they play. Along with pumpkins, we always pick up some jam and honey to tide us through the winter until we can come back in the spring and pick strawberries. Jacquemin Farms is a local treasure that welcomes visitors from far and near.
Jacquemin Farms is located at 7437 Hyland Croy Rd. (Plain City, Ohio). Fall Fun days run through October: Monday through Saturday 10 am-6 pm; and Sunday 1pm-6pm. For more information, call 614/873-5725.
