The exhibition Stacy Leeman: A Room of One’s Own will be on view at Dublin Arts Council, 7125 Riverside Dr., Dublin, Ohio from Sept. 20 through Oct. 27, 2022. The series of paintings by the Columbus artist explores a need for a physical and psychological space for women as artists. Leeman’s framed artworks feature collage on paper, canvas and wood panel, using her studio as inspiration, along with the title, A Room of One’s Own, drawn from an essay by Virginia Woolf.

An open house and opportunity to meet the artist will take place Tuesday, Sept. 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dublin Arts Council. Regular gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and the second Saturday of the month from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The exhibition, on-site parking and open house are free of charge. 

Leeman defines her artwork as gestural symbolism. Each series of paintings begins with a question or problem to be solved in her visual language. Leeman’s gestural painting is influenced by abstract expressionism, while she develops a set of symbols through colors, shapes and underlying images in each of her series.

Leeman’s paintings and drawings have been exhibited widely in solo and group exhibitions throughout the United States. Her work is held in public and private collections, including Princeton University, Princeton, N.J. Leeman has been the recipient of numerous awards, honors and grants.

Leeman has a Bachelor of Arts in studio art from Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio and a Masters of Fine Art from Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, Camden, N.J. Leeman teaches painting and drawing at Columbus State Community College, Columbus, Ohio.
